El Poste is located in the far north of Nicaragua, very close to the border with Honduras. Guillermo Montenegro and his family have very nearly lost their farm 3 times - to a hurricane in 1998, the financial crises of the mid-late 2000s, and to roya (leaf rust) in 2012. The incredible resilience built from these times, coupled with Guillermo's skill for producing excellent coffee, has meant the farm has consistently delivered excellent coffees in the years since. Multiple appearances in the finals of Cup of Excellence over the years have demonstrated the quality being delivered from El Poste.

This Obatá varietal shows off these qualities within a coffee hybrid grown to be roya-resistant. A cross between Villa Sarchi and Timor Hybrid, Obatá is also a dwarf plant, high-yielding, and suitable for growth at lower altitudes, alongside it's hardiness against rust, making it a great option for a farm like El Poste.

The coffee was washed with prolonged fermentation of 40 hours. They dried the cherries on beds under a shade at the La Estrella station, which is run by Caravela who imported this coffee for us, in the nearby town of Diplito. La Estrella station focuses on quality, detail-oriented drying to preserve and enhance the qualities inherent in the coffees delivered by local producers.

This coffee is bright and clean, with a solid honey-like sweetness giving it structure in filter coffee whilst increasing the mouthfeel in espresso.
